VISION FOR OUR CITY

I love West Hollywood and I care about the direction Our City is headed in. While I believe there are a number of good things happening, I believe there is a lot of room for improvement and I'm running to help usher in a brighter future for West Hollywood. I believe I am the best candidate for City Council because I will bring a fresh perspective, pragmatic decision-making, and community-based leadership to the Council. I am different from other candidates because my campaign is centered on listening to all community voices, from residents to other stakeholders. I believe in building on the great work that has already been done and thinking outside the box to address the dire issues facing our city. It will take all of us working together to usher in a brighter future in West Hollywood.  My priorities are to increase renters rights and affordable housing; enhance public safety; enact smart and humane policies to address the unhomed population in Our City; welcome responsible development that honors the history and identity of Our City; and create more green space for recreational sports.

Our residents and future residents deserve quality, affordable housing. Developers, that want to provide more affordable housing units, struggle to provide cost-effective housing and as a result high housing costs prevent people from staying in West Hollywood or moving to West Hollywood. My vision encompasses providing financial incentives to developers to increase affordable housing units.

I will also enhance renters' rights and streamline the administrative process for aggrieved renters.

Creating a safe West Hollywood means recognizing the concerns of those who live and play in the City and also working to minimize the ill effects of bias in our law enforcement. As a Councilperson, I will encourage the Council to thoughtfully exercise it’s oversight role of the contract with the Los Angeles Sheriff Department (LASD) to ensure services rendered meet the needs of all who live and visit West Hollywood. We must also think outside the box on public safety solutions that do not rise to the need of law enforcement by consulting with residents, businesses, labor partners, and other stakeholders; where necessary, find sensible infrastructure improvements and community based efforts.

We must address homelessness in West Hollywood with multiple solutions that work together to end homelessness. We must explore proven and fresh ideas to attack this problem head on. This starts with looking at the causes of homelessness and addressing this epidemic from that perspective. I believe the causes of homelessness can be broken down into 4 categories: (1) financial distress/intimate partner violence/familial desertion, (2) mental illness, (3) substance abuse, and (4) insufficient options to meet the needs of the unhomed. From this lense, we must craft solutions that are holistic and eliminate the barriers to stable and safe housing.

Our residents and future residents deserve quality, affordable housing. Developers, that want to provide more affordable housing units, struggle to provide cost-effective housing and as a result high housing costs prevent people from staying in West Hollywood or moving to West Hollywood.
